World Poker Association Planning for Major Tournament in 2008 - Las Vegas, NV October 4, 2007—The World Poker Association (WPA) is making plans for a major poker tournament in conjunction with its first annual meeting and educational conference slated for spring 2008. Although a venue has not yet been finalized, the Board of Directors of the World Poker Association has committed to “creating tournaments that will showcase the highest level of professionalism in the organization and execution of the competitions.” According to WPA Chairman Jesse Jones, “The best way for the World Poker Association to promote professionalism, sportsmanship, and ethical play in poker is to have a tournament that is run according to the spirit and guidelines of the association.” Jones added, “It’s clear from our presence at the WSOP and at the WSOP-Europe that the vast majority of poker players strongly support the WPA’s goals, and look forward to competing in tournaments that are professionally planned and managed. We’ve watched our membership grow on both sides of the Atlantic, and the vast majority of players we talk to are interested in having the WPA serve as the voice of the worldwide poker community in the promotion of professionalism in tournaments around the globe.
