Press Release from:
WCPE
William Woltz, music director for WCPE, TheClassicalStation.org, announces the station’s New Year’s Eve offerings for December 31. WCPE will celebrate the joy of classical dance with a collection of Viennese waltzes and dance music written by the Strauss family, Emile Waldteufel, Joseph Lanner and others. Opening the evening of gaiety and dance is the Cleveland Orchestra presenting “Der Rosenkavalier” by Richard Strauss.
Music & Vision reviewer, Kelly Ferjutz, described the Cleveland Orchestra’s 2007 performance of “Der Rosenkavalier” under the direction of Franz
Welser-Möst as “pure magic.” The orchestra’s performance will air at 8 p.m. ET December 31. Regularly referred to as “an immense concert waltz,” “Der Rosenkavalier” will begin the musical journey across the Viennese dance floor for the festive New Year’s Eve celebration.
The evening will be topped off with a presentation of Beethoven’s “Ninth Symphony” at midnight in order to ring in the New Year. The presentation of Great Classical Music never ends on WCPE, so as listeners put away their dance shoes and drift off to sleep, announcer Tara Lynn will present classical music favorites from around the globe. WCPE’s live broadcast of Great Classical Music, 24 Hours A Day can be accessed around the globe in several ways; on-line streaming in multiple formats, including IPv6, local cable television systems and traditional radio broadcasting. A complete list of the ways WCPE is available with instructions for cable and satellite reception can be found at theclassicalstation.org/listen.shtml. About WCPE: With a 29-year history, WCPE is a non-commercial, 100 percent listener-supported, independent station dedicated to excellence in Great Classical Music, 24 Hours A Day.
