The oil price has predictably risen once again. So what does this mean for us in real terms that we can process and work around? It means that we have less money at the end of the month and maybe we have to look at ways to supplement this as they’ve been doing for years overseas. It’s normal for people in Europe and especially in the US to have more than one job. They’ll do their ‘day job’ and then either on a few nights or every night go to their extra job. And if they really want to put away the extra bucks use the weekends to earn that little bit more.

So think

about it – what talents do you have that perhaps you could put to good use? Like me, maybe you can write and here, without even leaving home you could easily make a few tankfuls a month. Write just one freelance story of say 1500 words and even at a measly R2 00 (a low rate) a word you’d have enough to pay your petrol for the month. Think back to when you were students – then you probably did anything to earn a few extra bucks. Students I know are earning really good money tutoring. Are you good at maths, English or Science? Then maybe with a little brushing up on the current school syllabus there’s a good way to earn some extra money. Nearly every kid today needs extra tuition in this mysterious subjects.

And then there’s always the dreaded waitron work, where maybe you won’t earn a fortune but it will go towards filling the tank and you could meet some great new people. But most people reading this probably feel they don’t want to give up time outside work to do anything extra – then you’ll just have to suffer.
