A striking Print of the Palace of Westminster, drawn by the autistic savant, the renowned architectural artist Stephen Wiltshire was presented to the leading parliamentarian Lee Scott MP for Ilford North who is also a member of the House of Commons Select Committee on Transport. Scott has been championing the cause of autism in Westminster. He launched a landmark debate on autism in March 2007 and followed it up with a key question on autism to Prime Minister Tony Blair in Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons.
Lee Scott and autism campaigner Ivan Corea met with the
Prime Minister on 25th April and presented him with the Autism Report. They shared their concerns and recommendations with the Prime Minister. The Autism Awareness Campaign UK is calling for a national strategy on autism in the UK and a 10 year plan of action on autism and Asperger's Syndrome. The presentation of the Stephen Wiltshire drawing was made in the Palace of Westminster.
Speaking in London, Ivan Corea of the Autism Awareness Campaign UK said:'Stephen Wiltshire is a wonderful role model to all young people. Here is a young man, diagnosed with autism, who has overcome barriers to become a leading architectural artist in the world. Stephen Wiltshire has made a difference. I urge the Government to use Stephen Wiltshire as a classic example of success, in education campaigns aimed at young people.'
