Is there a connection between the bad public image that lawyers have with the bad public image that politicians have? Since the majority of members of Congress are also lawyers why do Americans overwhelmingly elect lawyers to represent them despite their bad public image?
This question and many others are raised and discussed in a recent edition of the acclaimed podcast “You Are The Guest”. Host Bill Grady discusses this topic with author Jeffery S. Miller from Las Vegas, Nevada. Jeffery S. Miller is the author of Higgins: An American Story, The Ballad of J.D. Higgins, and
numerous short stories. Miller was born in Conway, Arkansas but now makes his home in Nevada. The author is the former "Voice of the People" on KABF's 88.3 in Little Rock, Arkansas where he would interview various politicians and other Arkansas newsmakers.
The topic is explored further by examining how many wealthy members of Congress the United States actually has. With over 150 millionaires in Congress this question is raised during Show 73 of "You Are The Guest": Regardless of their humble beginnings, is it possible today for these millionaires to genuinely be able to relate to what the average American citizen faces on a day to day basis? Have they been isolated from average American life and lived in a circle of power and wealth for too long that they couldn’t possibly have true empathy for the what the average American goes through today? Episode 73 of “You Are The Guest” also includes a quick “average guy on the street” impression from Jeffery on 5 Democratic and 5 Republican candidates for President. “You Are The Guest” is a weekly podcast produced from Fort Dodge, Iowa and the show’s unique appeal is that anyone can be a guest. “You Are The Guest” features people from the United States and around the world who give their opinions on everything from the Iraq War, political corruption and conspiracies, to who they think the next President of the United States will be. Listeners don't have to be rich or famous to be a guest, and they can be part of podcasting without having their own show. Show 73 of You Are The Guest is free to listeners and may be found at www.youaretheguest.com, iTunes, Yahoo! Podcasts, Podcast Pickle, and many of the top podcasting directories around the world.
