New stylish restaurant will put Wolverhampton on the ‘culinary’ map - A local entrepreneur is following his lifelong dream by opening a ‘destination dining venue’ in the heart of Wolverhampton, creating fifteen jobs in the process. Paul Burgwin, the former owner of the Greyhound in Lower Penn, has invested over £350k into the redevelopment of the York Hotel on the Tettenhall Road, with the showpiece feature being the 42-seater contemporary restaurant. It is an ambitious venture that the trained chef is hoping will give the City Centre a much needed high quality location to rival anything that Birmingham and Manchester can offer. “A city of Wolverhampton’s size has been crying out for this type of restaurant for too long and we have some really exciting plans to put ‘The York’ on the map, including modern style furnishings and the ‘Wagyu Kobe beef’ signature dish – one of the few venues in the West Midlands to offer this,” explained Paul. “We’ve employed an award winning chef to help create a menu that fuses a range of international flavours and an interior designer to add deep leather booths and a truly amazing gothic ceiling that creates a unique atmosphere.

Wolverhampton’s size has been crying out for this type of restaurant for too long and we have some really exciting plans to put ‘The York’ on the map, including modern style furnishings and the ‘Wagyu Kobe beef’ signature dish – one of the few venues in the West Midlands to offer this,” explained Paul. “We’ve employed an award winning chef to help create a menu that fuses a range of international flavours and an interior designer to add deep leather booths and a truly amazing gothic ceiling that creates a unique atmosphere.” He continued: “Everything is geared towards our official opening on December 13th and we are currently in the process of recruiting staff to work in the restaurant.”

Located just one mile outside the City Centre, ‘The York’ is committed to using local produce in all of its dishes , with a lot of its ingredients, vegetables and meat sourced from Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Its target market is diners that like the 5-star experience at reasonable prices, with a varied menu and unique atmosphere set to attract people looking for that special night out, family occasion or businesses looking to entertain that all important client.
“There really is nothing like it, with individuals able to choose from ‘Gressingham Duck’ and Gloucestershire ‘Old Spot’ pork, to whole sea bass and Bangkok mussels,” explained Paul.

“However, the dish that is going to have everyone talking is the ‘Surf and Turf’, with the difference being the use of Wagyu Beef, which is prized for its fine marbling of the meat, delicate flavour and tenderness. The cattle are fed on a special grain based diet and sake beer and are regularly massaged to help with the high marbling – it really has to be tasted to be believed.” “The launch of ‘The York’ can only further reinforce this reputation and will hopefully boost the growing cosmopolitan culture of Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire.” To book your table or for further information, please contact 01902 758211.
