A promise to the late former Mayor of Wimborne to provide attractive, affordable housing has been fulfilled and the development named in his honour. Cllr John Perry was keen to see more affordable housing in Wimborne and pressed landlord Dave Wells to build flats in keeping with their surroundings. The £1.2million project in New Borough, which has been named Perry Court, brings 12 one and two bedroom flats and houses and retains some of the attractive features of the original building.
Dave said: “John really pressed for the building to reflect the old character of the area and
he was adamant that Wimborne needed to provide quality homes for people of all incomes. “He was a good friend and gave a great deal to his community – it seemed the natural thing to honour his memory and name the building after him.” John, who was Mayor of Wimborne in 2005/06 and raised thousands of pounds for local charities, passed away in September last year.
The current Mayor of Wimborne, Cllr Robin Cook, carried out the grand opening of Perry Court on Monday July 14. He said: “John would be thrilled, as I am, with the way this building reflects the character of its surroundings. He took a great interest in local history and architecture.” The development is centred on a courtyard area, giving safe space for children to play. Residents have already moved in.
