With the hallmark “Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo-Training for Work Scholarship Program” in full swing, the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) accredited the International School for Medical Transcription (ISMT) to be the only qualified medical transcription school in Cebu to become the program’s partner institution.
For medical transcription training, ISMT is the only specialized private training school considered by TESDA to have passed the quality tests demanded by the program with emphasis on the institution’s capability to develop and hone the skills and proficiency of students, and produce competent graduates that are assured to have gained the necessary competencies to fulfill job requirements once they successfully pass the training.
One major strength of ISMT’s educational program is its strategic partnership with its affiliate medical transcription production house – Northern TranscriptionWorks. This has afforded the school the ability to provide learning not based on passive procedural practicing but on techniques that lead to real skill acquisition. Through this partnership, ISMT is able to gain exclusive privileges not offered by any other medical transcription school such as: an on-the-job training in an actual MT production house to complement in-school theoretical instruction; access to the state-of-the-art technologies and software developed and used by Northern in actual operations; enabling students to practice on actual dictations using Northern’s sophisticated MT Productivity Tools that enables the transcriptionist to hear better and transcribe faster; and most notably, access to the expertise of Northern’s top practicing MTs for one-on-one student mentoring. Ma. Lourdes Go, Chief Executive of ISMT commended the PGMA scholarship program as crucial to sustaining the BPO sector’s growth by resolving the jobs-skills mismatch prevalent in the industry. “NTW and ISMT is fully prepared to collaborate with the government in addressing the gap between the skills and qualifications of job seekers, and industry standards in the medical transcription industry,” adds Go. Along with call centers, medical transcription is one of the fastest growing sector in the BPO industry as the demand in the United States for medical transcription services continues to skyrocket owing to the ever increasing shortage of American medical transcriptionists coupled with the steady growth of the healthcare industry in the country.
