Lion Brand Donates Yarn to Krochet Kids to Help in Fight against Global Poverty
|
Press Release from:
Lion Brand Yarn
Lion Brand Yarn working with Krochet Kids International hopes to take a bite out of global poverty this winter. A donation of Lion Brand yarn is being used by Krochet Kids International to train a group of women in Gulu, Uganda to hand-crochet beanies. The beanies will then be sold in the U.S. at selected surf shops and the Krochet Kids Web site. The profits from the sales will be pumped back into Gulu to help provide basic nutritional needs, education and further employment for the people of that community.
The goal of the Krochet Kids is to help alleviate global poverty by
teaching people in impoverished communities a marketable skill, employing them, then taking the profits earned from these endeavors and redistributing them back into the communities of the workers. The organization believes that by training people in a marketable craft, they help to bring economic relief not only to the individual, but to the community they live in.
"First and foremost, Krochet Kids is not a project that simply belongs to us." said Ryan Motley of Krochet Kids International "We want everyone to take part in this cause of fighting global poverty, and in essence become a part of Krochet Kids. With this in mind we approached Lion Brand because of their quality yarn products which are crucial to what we are doing. Working with Lion Brand, has not only helped us in lowering our costs, but will also have a direct impact on the proceeds that will be placed back into the communities we are already employing. Lion Brand has been an exceptional company to work with." For this first project, there are currently six women being trained in Gulu, Uganda to hand crochet beanies. Krochet Kids International hopes to have these hand made beanies available for sale by the winter of 2007.
