Kurt Fleckenstein at the Performance Intermedia Festival in Szczecin, PL
|
Press Release from:
Christian Bauer
After the initial stage of live art and performance festival, starting from the fifth edition in 2008 the Festival has been organised based on three pillars: analog performance, intermedia (multimedia performance arts, live multimedia, intermedia facilities, idea art), intermedia and performance interventions in the public space.
An essential part of the Festival includes an educational program, promotion of young artists and discussions. The works presented within the framework of the Festival are of no specific subject. The preferred subjects include those touching upon social,
historical and identity-related issues. The majority of artists presenting their works at the Festival are invited by the organisers. However, it is also possible for artists to independently apply to participate in the Festival. Portfolios of professional but not necessarily recognised artists from all over the world are welcome.
With the use of full-room installations that may be classified as pop art or art of object, the artist deals in a critical and provoking way with the subject of current events. According to the readymade idea, in his installations Fleckenstein often presents industrial products in an unconventional context to intrigue the viewer. His “I hate billboards” installation forms an ironic interpretation of advertising. Paradoxically, in his criticism he uses the same instrumentation that he criticises. At the Π Festival Fleckenstein presented a surprising work in the public space at the Chrobry Embankment terrace. It was a new quality of artistic activity in Szczecin.
