Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Ming Campbell receive Autism Song - (London,UK) The Prime Minister-in-Waiting, Gordon Brown, the Leader of the Opposition, David Cameron and the Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Menzies (Ming) Campbell have received copies of 'Open Every Door,' a song for autism released in London by the Asian superstar Nimal Mendis who lives in the United Kingdom. Ivan Corea of the Autism Awareness Campaign UK handed over the copies of the 'Open Every Door'CD to the political leaders and urged Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Sir Ming Campbell to reach out to parents, carers and people with autism and Asperger's Syndrome who are in real need and provide them with public services in education, health, specialist speech therapy and respite care. The Autism Awareness Campaign UK has been calling for a national strategy on autism and a 10 year program of action in the UK - this includes the halting of the closure of special schools, buidling specialist autism schools, building autism units in mainstream school, further training on the condition to teachers and classroom assistants, further education and higher education opportunities, access to the labour market for people with autism and Asperger's Syndrome and a debate on the elderly and autism.
An Autism Report detailing these concerns was presented to Prime Minister Tony Blair in the House of Commons on 25th April by autism campaigner Ivan Corea and Lee Scott MP. They are urging the future Prime Minister Gordon Brown who takes over on 27th June this year to act on The Autism Report.
