The United Nations International Volunteers Day brought together volunteers from all walks of life, drawing attention to their important contributions to social development and peace building.

This year the Sri Lanka Tourist Board and the United Nations Volunteers commemorated the International Volunteer Day by holding the first UNESCO PEACE CONCERT on December 5th and 6th with the UNESCO PEACE FASHION SHOW theme of ‘Lets Volunteer for peace’.

The peace concert hosted an array of entertainment, showcasing both local and international talents. Staged at the Sugathadasa Indoor stadium, the agenda included a laser show, performances by UN spokespersons Bathiya and Santhush, the Sunera foundation, “MALEKUM SALAAM” as world-premiere by Supermodel Dji Dieng and German jazz/pop violinist LANDO and the world famous electronica group SUPERMAX (with more than 200 No. 1 hit in the international chart).

This concert aimed to reach over 1.5 million television viewers islandwide over the age of eighteen, 3000 participants, and over 1 million overseas viewers linked via satellite transmission

Supermodel's Dji Dieng engagements are not limited to her role as "Ambassadress" for the UNESCO Sri Lanka, but does include also her efforts in favour of AIDS prevention where she participated for free at the most important AIDS Fund Raising in Europe, the LIFEBALL. Dji performed together with her colleagues Sharon Stone, Catherine Deneuve, Anastacia, Naomi Campbell, Ana-Paula Araujo, Debrah Shaw and World-Supermodel Markus Schenkenberg for an audience of more than 40'000 spectators !

Dji Dieng further supports actively the BREAST CANCER PREVENTION CAMPAIGNS. Still one out of nine women dies because of Breast Cancer!
