ATLANTA, Ga. – Larry May of L.B. May & Associates, Knoxville, Tenn., today announced that the 2009 Spring Book Show will be held Friday-Sunday, March 6-8, at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta.
In the past, the show for sellers and buyers of bargain books was held at the Georgia World Congress Center. However, on the evening of March 14, 2008, a tornado swept through downtown Atlanta. It did severe damage to a number of structures, including an estimated $100 million in damage to the Georgia World Congress Center. As a result, the 2008 Spring Book Show moved to the downtown
Hilton Atlanta Hotel. Because the Hilton was not available for the Great American Bargain Book Show, also owned by L.B. May and Associates and held August 1-2, 2008, moved to the Cobb Galleria Centre. The Galleria proved so popular with vendors and buyers that it was selected as the location for the 2009 Spring Book Show.
The Spring Book Show, the largest bargain book show in the nation, features more than 50,000 book titles being sold by vendors to buyers from around the world. It is closed to the general public. Educational seminars being held in conjunction with the show will be held in the Galleria’s salon area. “We’re thankful that the Galleria has found accommodations for both the spring and fall shows,” May said. “The Marriott Renaissance, the official hotel for the 2009 Spring Book Show, connects to the convention center, another plus, and conferees at the 2008 Great American Bargain Book Show liked the availability of free parking and the great shopping and restaurants in the area.” May said that about three-quarters of available space for the 2009 show has already been sold. Low-priced bargain book stock, he noted, is becoming increasingly popular with booksellers because of the depressed national economy.
