Press Release from:
Centre tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC)
The first call of the 7FP was concluded during the last July, when CTTC was founded for the realization of four new R&D projects: NEWCOM++, BONE, DaVINCI and PHYDIAS. Each one of these projects will study aspects regarding the communication systems of future generation.
PHYDIAS project proposes an innovative solution to deal with the dynamic management of radio spectrum, which will allow a more efficient usage of such a scarce natural resource. In the context of wireless networks, NEWCOM++ studies the architecture of future generation networks, with particular attention on their
ubiquity, which will allow the user’s connection to Internet anywhere and anytime. On the other hand, DaVINCI project is focused on the design and implementation of efficient coding scheme able to improve the available bandwidth for data transmission. Finally, the BONE project focuses on the study of high speed, flexible and reconfigurable optical networks which will allow high speed data transmission.
The 7th Framework Program (7FP) of European Union funds research and innovation projects in many areas of knowledge, among them, the Information and Communications Technology area (ICT). The final objective is to improve the competitiveness of European industry, as well as guaranteeing that the development of new technologies in Europe is in accordance with the market demand and the society needs. CTTC has been already participating in European projects funded by the Framework Program for six years. In this context, CTTC is collaborating, exchanging ideas and sharing research lines with many other European institutions, research centres, universities, operators and manufacturers.
