Applied Language go ‘Missing on the Moors’.

Applied Language Solutions, a Huddersfield based Translations Company organised a ten mile sponsored walk for the Barnardo’s ‘Missing in Yorkshire scheme’ on Saturday 18th August. The walk itself was set to begin in Meltham and, following the route over the Saddleworth Moors, finish in Greenfield. Unfortunately the walk did not go quite to plan and instead the Applied Language team found themselves ‘Missing in the Saddleworth Moors.’ Although the team did indeed walk ten miles, if not more, once they realised they had went off route they sought refuge in a mini–bus and were

escorted to the finishing point in Greenfield.

Kenny Holden, Head of Technology said, “Everyone who took part thoroughly enjoyed themselves and even the fact that it was raining cats and dogs and we walked 6 miles in the wrong direction couldn’t dampen our spirits. It dampened our clothes, socks, shoes and sandwiches but not our spirits!” Subsequent to the walk, the whole team at Applied Language Solutions have been fundraising through sponsorship and have set up a web page to enable people to donate online, which can be accessed at www.justgiving.com/appliedlanguage. The fundraising total so far is £1132.50 but, as the team feel they didn’t achieve the goal they set out to achieve, they have decided to continue fundraising and give the walk another shot, on Saturday 29th September, this time hoping to complete the correct ten mile walk route.

The Barnardo’s ‘Missing in Yorkshire scheme’ is a young people focused service, which works with children under the age of 16 in the Bradford and Kirklees area who have gone missing from home. This scheme recognises that these young people are vulnerable to offending, substance misuse and exploitation and to avoid these issues occurring, ‘Missing’ are offering individual and group work to help the young people to keep themselves safe. “Applied Language are always on the look out for ways to fundraise for charities and give back to the local community.” Kenny said, “We have recently made a donation to ‘The Multiple Sclerosis Society’ and have previously completed a sponsored walk for ‘aids orphans in Tanzania’.”
