Accellion, Inc. (www.accellion.com), the leading provider of on-demand secure file transfer solutions for enterprise users, today announced a global education initiative that offers free user licenses to university students anywhere in the world. Through this initiative, Accellion will provide free user licenses to students at universities and educational institutions that license the Accellion Secure File Transfer Solution for their faculty and staff.

faculty, staff and other students on academic work. It also minimizes the impact large file transfers have on the school’s email network and reduces information security risks associated with the use of un-secure electronic file transfer workarounds such as FaceBook, MySpace, Skype and P2P.

Accellion’s education initiative was developed in response to requests from universities to simplify the traditionally cumbersome process of transferring large files, not only by faculty but between faculty and students. Universities can see first-hand the many benefits offered through Accellion’s Secure File Transfer solution and extend their faculty and staff deployment to include the student population without added cost. By implementing the Accellion solution, the process of sharing data electronically, reducing storage costs, and increasing performance of messaging servers is simplified.

“Many universities are looking for a solution that can be easily shared by both faculty and students, without having to deal with extra hardware or technical support,” said Paul Steiner, managing director of EMEA, Accellion. “In addition to further reducing the impact large file transfers have on the network, Accellion makes it much easier for students to collaborate with each other and faculty. This is a significant technical and academic advantage for universities and their students.”

“Ever-increasing file sizes and large email attachments are negatively impacting nearly every industry, and academic institutions are no exception. If not properly managed, the electronic transfer of large files can have serious consequences on both network security and performance,” said Yorgen Edholm, president and CEO of Accellion. “This education initiative was designed to help universities address related issues proactively while significantly improving real-time communications between faculty, staff and students looking to share research data, exchange reports and advance academic ideas.”

Availability. The Accellion Secure File Transfer solution is available in two form factors: hardware appliance or virtual appliance. Additional information about Accellion’s secure file transfer solutions and its education initiative can be found at accellion.com.
