T-Systems
Frankfurt am Main, December 18, 2006. – T-Systems and Play-mobil have set up a new website with an online shop (www.playmobil.de) just in time for the holiday season. The novelty: No software or hardware costs for the new platform are incurred by the toy manufacturer. Playmobil leases the shop system from T-Systems and pays only a transaction-based fee whenever a customer makes an order.
Playmobil receives a high volume of orders during the Christmas season. Topping childrens’ Christmas lists are fantasy filled products such as the pirate ship, knight’s of the roundtable, the fairy tail castle, or farm. As a toy manufacturer, Playmobil traditionally has strongly seasonal fluctuations in the number of visitors to its website. The company has therefore decided to trust the infrastructure for its web-site to T-Systems.
The T-Systems offering enables Playmobil, for example, to avoid maintaining costly infrastructure capacity the entire year just for the high-demand holiday season. The only thing that counts is the ca-pacity used. The advantages are obvious: No unnecessary invest-ments in IT hardware, a high degree of flexibility and software that is always state-of-the-art. Playmobil also had new features implemented on its website, such as children’s games that are fun and promote dexterity. Rounding out the company's online offer is information about Playmobil Funparks. The replacement parts service is especially handy. Lost parts of all sizes such as wooden spoons, saddles, motor bike axles and police hats can be re-ordered. “Children like things wild and colorful. Adults appreciate good service and information at their fingertips. To offer our big and small custom-ers what they want, we decided on this flexible system,” says Michael Konzmann, responsible for E-Commerce at Playmobil. Playmobil's online shop is based on the "Software-as-a-Service" so-lution by Demandware. The solution saves company investments in e-commerce. The concept makes sense particularly when it comes to large fluctuations in users and sales, and saves online companies the high availability costs associated with IT hardware and software.
